About the College

In the late 1960s, recognizing the educational needs of the people in and around Garhshankar, Hoshiarpur, Punjab, visionary leaders established the ‘Guru Nanak Academic Council’. This council aimed to commemorate the 500th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji while addressing the pressing need for higher education in the Kandi region, known for its semi-hilly terrain and economically weaker, rural communities. Subsequently, this council was renamed the Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College Society, Garhshankar.

The foundation stone of B.A.M. Khalsa College was laid by Sant Baba Fateh Singh Ji on February 19, 1969. The institution is affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh, and receives support from both the Punjab Government and the University Grants Commission (UGC). Over the years, the college has become a hub of not just academic excellence but also sports, cultural, and literary activities.

The name Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College is a tribute to the courageous freedom fighters of the Babbar Akali movement, reflecting the institution’s roots in Sikh values and the spirit of sacrifice. On July 22, 1982, the college’s management was taken over by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Amritsar, further strengthening its mission to serve society through education.

Today, B.A.M. Khalsa College is a premier institution in Northern India, providing education to over 1100 students. It offers a wide range of academic programs: -Collegiate School: +1 and +2 streams in Science, Commerce, and Arts, affiliated with P.S.E.B., Mohali. Undergraduate Courses: B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., B.Sc. (Computer Science), and integrated programs like B.A.-B.Ed. and B.Sc.-B.Ed. Postgraduate Courses: M.Com., M.Sc. (Chemistry, Mathematics), M.A. (History), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA).

The college is committed to holistic development by combining traditional learning with modern educational practices. Its unique approach focuses on fostering academic excellence, discipline, and moral values among its students.

B.A.M. Khalsa College continues to honor its legacy while shaping the future of education, contributing significantly to the growth and upliftment of the Kandi region and beyond.

It is a great pleasure and proud moment for me to join Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar, as a new principal. Our institution, under the esteemed leadership of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, has a rich legacy of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and community service. I am honored to be part of this distinguished Sikh institution.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to S. Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of SGPC, and S. Sukhminder Singh, Secretary Education, for entrusting me with this significant responsibility.
